Fobia

Fobia

Fobia is a Mexican rock band from Mexico City, whose career started in 1987, a time when there wasn't much promotion of rock music in Mexico.

In December 1987, RCA Ariola de México promoted a famous battle of amateur rock bands: "Rock en tu idioma" (Rock in your language). In the said battle Fobia were eliminated early on, the second place went to a band named "Pedro y las tortugas" and the winners were "Los Amantes de Lola".

Notwithstanding their elimination, executives in Ariola decided to schedule an appointment. According to legend, they weren't able to enter into Ariola's building because of a confusion with security.

From this moment on, the band's luck started to improve. Saúl Hernández from the Mexican legendary band Caifanes, produced their first demos, and Ariola signed them.

In 1990, the band was referred to Oscar López, who had previously worked with Caifanes, Neón and Maldita Vecindad. Along with Marteen they recorded their debut self-titled album "Fobia", recorded in the Crystal studios in Mexico City and New York.

Their first song "El Microbito" was subject to censorship due to its explicit lyrics. However, this helped promote the band even further, which soon made the song a smash-hit. This album also contained hits like "El Cumpleaños", "La Iguana", and "El Crucifijo".

Their second album included vocals from rock star Alejandra Guzmán. They separated after their 1997 Live Album "Fobia on Ice" and reunited in 2003. On July 26, 2005, they released their first full-length album since 1995, called "Rosa Venus".

Their lead singer, Leonardo de Lozanne, dated briefly, TV presenter Rebecca de Alba. The band in 1997 made a cover of the song "Under Pressure" by Queen for its tribute called "Presionando". In 1998 he collaborated in "José José: Un tributo", an album of covers featuring rock-version songs of José José.

BIOGRAPHY Mexican alternative pop/rock pioneer Fobia made their debut with the release of a self-titled album in 1990, featuring "Microbito," the band's first hit, followed by 1991's Mundo Feliz and 1993's Leche. After issuing Amor Chiquito in 1995, original drummer Jorge Amaro decided to leave the act, being replaced by ex-Víctimas del Doctor Cerebro percussionist Jay de la Cueva. In 1997 Fobia returned with a live album called Fobia on Ice, recorded at Mexico City's Metropolitan Theater, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. Fobia disbanded in 1998. Soon, singer Leonardo de Lozanne started a solo career while keyboardist Iñaki Vásquez joined his sister Aurora to produce Aurora y la Academia's debut album. After many years, Fobia decided to regroup, bringing de Lozanne, de la Cueva, Vásquez, and guitarist Paco Huidobro back and adding Cha! on bass. In 2006 they released their first studio album in ten years, and fifth overall, Rosa Venus, on Sony International
