California , USA. The lake was formed from Stony Creek in 1963 upon the completion ofBlack Butte Dam by theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers . The dam is located approximately convert|9|mi|km|1 west of Orland. At full pool, the lake is convert|7|mi|km|1 long and has a shoreline of convert|40|mi|km|1 and a surface area of convert|4460|acre|km2|0. The dam and lake were constructed for flood protection for local towns and agricultural lands.External links
