Philip Felix Smith VC (
1825 -16 January 1906 ) was born inLurgan ,County Armagh and was an Irish recipient of theVictoria Cross , the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to TD (parliament) and Commonwealth forces.Details
He was about 30 years old, and a
corporal in the 17th Regiment (later theLeicestershire Regiment ),British Army during theCrimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.On
18 June 1855 at Sebastopol, in theCrimea , Corporal Smith went out repeatedly in front of the advanced trenches against the Great Redan, under heavy fire, after the column had retired from the assault, and brought in wounded comrades.Further information
