Helzberg Diamonds is a diamond retail company founded by Morris Helzberg in 1915 in
Kansas City, Kansas . It was quickly taken over, when he became ill, by his son Barnett Helzberg, Sr. at the age of 15.In 1963, Barnett Sr. stepped up to Chairman of the Board and let his son, Barnett C. Helzberg, Jr., take over. Barnett replaced his father in the Chairman position in 1988.
Barnett Jr., a BBA graduate of the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, sold the company to Warren Buffett's
Berkshire Hathaway in 1995 and wrote a book titled, "What I Learned Before I Sold to Warren Buffett".In 2001
Rockhurst University inKansas City, Missouri renamed its School of Management the Helzberg School of Management in recognition of donations given by Barnett and Shirley Helzberg.
