Alston is also the
United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary executions. Recently, Alston visited Afghanistan on behalf of work for the United Nations.Publications
*Alston and Henry J. Steiner have edited International Human Rights in Context, Law, Politicas, Morals which is published by Oxford University Press and often sited as standard text for human rights students in British Universities. The first edition was published in 2000, and a second edition was published in 2004. In 2007 a third edition was published that names Alstona and Ryan Goodman as authors, and Steiner as editor. Each edition has been extensively updated and the third edition contains "Post September 11 material on conflict, terrorism and international criminal law."
