- Tumbledown (band)
"Tumbledown" is the
alternative country side project ofMxPx bassist/vocalistMike Herrera .The band has released 5 songs to date on Tumbledown's
Myspace page, recorded presumably in late 2006/early 2007, and according to the accompanyingblog , mixed by Mike on his laptop during an MxPx tour of Australia and New Zealand in late February.Production
Herrera has stated that he is producing and engineering the record himself and that there is currently no label attached to the project, which is said to be in its 'very early stages', so it is likely that the songs released thus far and ones to follow are being recorded in MxPx's home studio in
Bremerton, Washington ; "The Clubhouse".Name & Collaborations
Recordings by "Tumbledown" to date has been a collaborative effort between Herrera and Bremerton local band "
The Rocky Point All-Stars ", but it is unconfirmed if the current backing group will remain with Herrera for further recording or subsequent tours following the release of a completed album. The name "Tumbledown" likely represents only Herrera himself, as he has been performing solo acoustic shows in the Washington area showcasing his new 'country material' under the name. To date, Herrera has given no public explanation as to the meaning or origin of the Tumbledown name.Influences/Sound
Herrera has pointed out that he has been writing country songs since 1998, and that this project has been long awaited. He has cited "
Whiskeytown ", "Hank Williams ", "Johnny Cash ", and "Bill Monroe " among influences. The songs "Ballad of a Factory Man", "Sunny In Dallas", and "Lonesome" posted on Tumbledown's Myspace, feature Hererra's unmistakable vocals and penchant for catchy melodies with a backing of classic country instrumentation far removed from MxPx's distinctivepunk rock sound.Current Status
With MxPx on tour, the current status of Tumbledown is unknown. Presumably Herrera will continue to work gradually on completing his record in between his MxPx commitments. While it has not been confirmed, the recent release of the songs and promotional merchandise on MySpace indicate that Herrera is aiming to complete and release a full-length "Tumbledown" record before the end of 2007. At the moment they are selling their 5 songs on myspace.com.
