footnotes = Quartier Militaire ("nickname" Arab Town) is a town in the centre of Mauritius, found in the Moka District and the capital of Moka-Flacq district, mainly known as the Garden District. It houses the District Council of Moka-Flacq. It has a population of over 67,450 (2006 census). Its quarters and suburbs include Bonne Veine, Esperance, Valetta, Providence, Royal Plaza and Vuillemin.

Environment

Quartier Militaire has a less concentrated region of sugar cane fields compared to other regions and it is also known for its cold temperature in Mauritius. The coolest temperature ever recorded in Quartier-Militaire was 6 degrees Celsius.

Facilities

Educational institutes like the SSS Quartier Militaire Girls' College and Boys' College are found there. The Sir Edgar Laurent Government School is a primary school which educates young teens. In Providence quarter there is the Lady Lydie Ringadoo Government School. Belle-Rive contains the big educational institute for dental surgeons. Young adults, mainly from India and Mauritius, are promoted to various sections of dental surgeries.

Quartier Militaire market is a meeting place for buyers and sellers, mainly busy on early Sunday mornings. It possesses a bus station where passengers can get access to transport to other towns and the capital. The town Phoenixdn is just some kilometers away from Quartier-Militaire and it is well connected to other major towns and cities.

Culture

The Quarter Militaire stadium is an attraction for the town's inhabitants. Providence is the major quarter for religious activities, boasting a big Hindu temple and an Islamic cultural centre, which will be the only one in Moka district, is being built there. Many old temples are still standing there.

Royal Plaza is known as Quartier Militaire's Town Centre. It is a highly frequented area which possesses two mosques, one church, the major bus station, police station, post office and several service facilities. There also in Quartier Militaire town numerous health centres, youth clubs, football courts, several video clubs and groceries, night clubs, shopping centers, apartments and also industries.

Valetta is known for its small reservoir which is a local attraction and also for fishing.

(Quartier Militaire is actually under the influence of a huge boost of development and it will soon be entitled as one of the main towns of Mauritius).
