The Bible Society in Australia exists to put the Bible into people's hands. [ [http://www.biblesociety.com.au/ The Bible Society in Australia ] ] They were inaugurated at the instigation of Governor Lachlan Macquarie in Sydney on March 7 1817. The first Australasian translation was a selection of Scripture selections in the Maori language printed in 1827.
Mission
The stated mission of the "Bible Society of Australia" is "to provide the Word of God to all people, in their own language, in a format they can use and at a price they can afford."
