The University of Kalyani was established on November 1, 1960. With convert|400|acre|km2 of campus it has got a three star accrediation from 'NAAC'. This university is providing academic guidance and leadership to 37 affiliated colleges (16 in Nadia, 20 in Murshidabad and 1 in North 24 Parganas). There are 217 teachers assisting 2,000 post graduate and PhD students. It has facultries of 1.Science 2.Arts and Commerce 3.Education 4.Engg. Tech and Management 5. Law 6. Music and Fine arts. The total number of academic departments is 25. Prof (Dr.) Arabinda Das is the Vice Chancellor of this University.

Campus

The University is situated in a locality surrounded by a rural setting within a serene background. Yet, its distance from Kolkata is only 50 km.This locational advantage of the University makes it particularly suitable for the 'Cafeteria Approach' to higher education.

Academics

The University is providing academic guidance and leadership to 36 (thirty six) affiliated degree colleges located in the districts of Nadia, Murshidabad and parts of N. 24 Parganas.In addition engineering colleges were affiliated to this University for the last three years.

Since then, this department is working on collection and dissemination of Environmental Knowledge among the people by building up human expertise through M.Sc, M.Phil and Research Programmes.

Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary subject and keeping with this fact, this small Department has six permanent [http://www.kuesaa.org/staff_profile.html Faculty Members] with diverse [http://www.kuesaa.org/research_activity.html reseach areas] - from Biodiversity, Ecology, Geology, Atmospheric Science, Pollution Chemistry up to Cell signalling & Toxicology. The Department has six well developed specialised and one general laboratories all of which are aimed towards continual improvement.

The faculties undertake consultancies and projects in collaboration with Industry.
