Lin Yueru

Lin Yueru (zh-tsp|t=林月如|s=林月如|p=lín yuè rú) is second of the three female protagonist to appear in the Chinese RPG game franchise The Legend of Sword and Fairy (zh-tsp|t=仙劍奇俠傳|s=仙剑奇侠传|p=xiān jiàn qí xiá zhuàn), and the 2004 TV series (acted by 安以軒Ady An) aired in China based on the original RPG game.

Character History

She is the daughter and the only child of the influential Lin family in what is now the city of Suzhou. Her father is a respected martial artist and a highly regarded figure in the court of the Emperor. She first met Li Xiaoyao when she was beating two of her servants who fell in love and wanted to run away, Li came to their rescue and freed them, but in the process bound Lin to a tree as 'punishment'. Soon after Li had to save her from two thugs, but was badly injured by when she surprised him with her pocket knife as she fled back to the city. Zhao Ling'er revived an unconscious Li using a newly mastered but risky spell.

Lin's father wanted to find a capable husband for Lin. He set up a martial arts contest, and the person who can beat Lin in a match up will be able to marry her. Through chance, Lin knocked an opponent out of the rink and directly onto Li, aggravating Li in combination of this event and the previous 'slash and dash'. Li came onto the stage and defeated her, unknowingly winning the competition. Thus began their love triangle between Zhao, Li and Lin. Eventually the three of them would swear to be life long friends.

Lin rebels against her father all the time since his father doesn't want to lose another member of his family again.

Relationships

Lin initially despised Li because of his upbringing and background, slowly she fell in love with Li, but couldn't publicly make her feelings known due to the presence of Zhao. Lin was crushed to death in the events that destroyed the Demon Prison, however she was revived by a friend of Li's master, a traditional medicine guru. After Zhao's death, Lin and Li raised the daughter of Zhao and Li, Li Yiru, "Yiru" meaning 'in remembrance of Ru', Ru(如) is the last character of Lin's name.Lin was made by his father to marry Li (or vice versa) however, after the incidence in the house of Lin- where Zhao turned into her real form and escaped. Lin and Li went away and set off to find Zhao.

Critiques

Her fate is almost identical to Zhao Ling'er's, except that she gets revived from death and together with Li they would live happily ever after. She was living a life of wealth and power, being the daughter and the only child of a rich and powerful family, she could have anything and everything she ever wanted, but instead she chose to accompany Li in his quest and travels the world with him.
