Sainik School Lucknow was established in July 1960. It was the first
Sainik School in the country, and was followed by the setting up of other Sainik Schools, under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, on the same lines. The education in this school is highly subsidised by the Government ofUttar Pradesh . It is a boys' residential English medium school.Mission
The school’s mission is to seek due representation of Uttar Pradesh in the officer cadre of the Defence services through National Defence academy. Therefore the school imparts military-oriented training to its cadets. It also educates them towards an all-round development of personality and endeavours to inculcate the personal qualities of self-reliance, courage and confidence.
Sainik School is a residential English medium school. The school is a member of Indian Public Schools’ conference and is included in the Government of India list of meritorious scholars.
The schools curriculum and activities are chalked out such as to inculcate in the cadets a high sense of national spirit, loyalty, patriotism and responsibility for leading a purposeful life.
The Sainik School is situated at a distance of about 15 km from
Lucknow city. The Lucknow airport is about 3 km away and the nearest Railhead is Char Bagh which is 13 km away from the school.The school prepares boys for the science stream of the
Central Board of Secondary Education Examination (CBSE) for class 10th and theIndian School Certificate Examinations, (class XII), New Delhi. The school provides education to boys from class 7 to 12.Management
The school is run by the Uttar Pradesh Sainik Schools Society which has its registered office in Lucknow.
This Sainik school is the only Sainik school which is completely financed and managed by the State Government.
Facilities
The school, being a boarding one, provides accommodation to its staff in the school campus. Government of India Scheme of Scholarships in approved residential Secondary Schools is operational in the School.
The school spreads over a vast area of about 280 acres. It has extensive playgrounds and its own stadium Vishwanath Stadium. The School has many facilities for games like hockey, cricket, football, basketball, volley ball, badminton, boxing, table tennis and swimming.
It has well equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It has separate music and art rooms. A well-stocked library has been set up in the school. The school has six houses named after famous personalities. Name of the houses are Panth house,Shashtri house,Nehru house,S.N.House,Kidwai house,Tandon house. The school has facilities of a cadet’s mess. It has a sick bay looked after by a Resident Medical officer.
The school believes in maintaining a high standard of physical fitness. The cadets go through rigorous physical training throughout their stay. The school follows a regular timetable for compulsory games and physical training.

Admission is on the basis of a competitive examination and interview, which is followed by a medical examination by a Military Medical Board at the Command hospital, Lucknow.
Boys having UP’s domicile certificate between the age of 10 1/2 and 12 years as on July 02, of the year of admission are eligible to apply. The boy must have passed class 6 from a recognised school. The child is admitted according to the final placement in the merit list and the number of vacancies available in the school.
The academic year of the School has been divided into two terms: First Term 01 July to 24 December. Second Term 15 January to 30 April.
Summer Vacation from about 03 May to about 30 June. Winter Vacation from about 24 December to about 15 January.
