The 1996 Kansas City Chiefs season resulted in a 9-7 record and second place finish in the AFC West. Following the Chiefs' painful loss in the , the Chiefs could not match their might from 1995. Despite having the team being predicted as eventual winners of Super Bowl XXXI by "Sports Illustrated" ["Sports Illustrated", September 1996] , the team barely missed the playoffs.
