Thurstaston Railway Station

Thurstaston Railway Station

Thurstaston Railway station opened in 1886, closing to passengers in 1954, although the line itself remained open to passengers for another two years, and to freight until 1962.

The Great Western Railway and London and North Western Railway opened a branch line from their main line at Hooton to Parkgate on October 1, 1866. Three stations were provided at Hadlow Road, Neston and Parkgate. On April 19, 1886 the line was extended to West Kirby. Further stations opened at Heswall, Thurstaston, Caldy, Kirby Park and West Kirby. Unlike most of the stations on the line, the platforms are still in situ, though the southbound platform is largely covered with heavily overgrown greenery.
