WHCC was the only radio station in Waynesville for many years. The station has been around since the 1940s when the Fry's owned it. In the 1980s the format was
adult contemporary . Later formats includedoldies and Country.In 1990,
WQNS /WHCC owner KAT Communications ofMyrtle Beach, South Carolina filed forChapter 11 , but the stations were doing well and no changes were planned. adult standards soon after that. By this timeBlue Dolphin Communications owned the station.WMXF, WQNQ and WQNS were purchased by

WMXF-AM features a wide variety of local programming. By far, the most popular program on the station is the "Trading Post" with host John Roten. Listeners call in live and announce items they have for sale or are looking to buy.
The station also features local sports programming such as Tuscola High School football games.
