- Janapar
Janapar is the wandering marked trail through mountains, valleys and villages of
Nagorno-Karabakh , with monasteries and fortresses along the way. The trail is broken into day hikes, which will bring you to a different village each night, where you can either stay with a village family or set up camp nearby. The paths have existed for centuries, but now are marked specifically for hikers.Himnakan Janapar
The Himnakan Janapar (backbone trail), marked in
2007 , leads from the northwest region ofShahumian to the southern town ofHadrut . Side trails and mini trails take you to additional parts of Karabakh. The important site passed along this hike includeDadivank monastery,Gandzasar monastery,Shushi , theKarkar Canyon with its high cliffs,Zontik Waterfall and ruins ofHunot , as well as the 2,000 year old tree ofSkhtorashen ,Azykh Cave andGtichavank monastery.Janapar symbol
The symbol of the trail is an outline of Karabakh, with 5 circles of increasing size on top, which take on the appearance of a footprint.
