Ellis began his pro baseball career in the minors with theNew York-Penn League 'sUtica Blue Sox in 1991. Eliis spent the next season playing for both theGulf Coast League White Sox and the Class ASouth Bend White Sox of the Mid West League in by|1992. In by|1993, Ellis once again played for two different teams playing for the Class ASarasota White Sox of theFlorida State League . And later for the Double-ABirmingham Barons of the Southern League. OnJuly 27 , 1996, Ellis was traded to the California Angels forPat Borders .Ellis reached the majors in 1996 with the Angels, spending one year with them before moving to the
Arizona Diamondbacks (by|2001),Los Angeles Dodgers (by|2002) and Texas Rangers (by|2003). His most productive season came in 2001 with Arizona, when he set career-highs in wins (6),strikeout s (41) andinnings pitched (92.0).
