Thomas Francis Marshall (
June 7 ,1801 –September 22 ,1864 ) was a nineteenth century politician and lawyer fromKentucky . He was the nephew ofJohn Marshall .Born in
Frankfort, Kentucky , Marshall pursued classical studies inVirginia , studied law and was admitted to the bar, commencing practice inVersailles, Kentucky in 1828. He was a member of theKentucky House of Representatives from 1832 to 1836, in 1838 and 1839. He moved toLouisville, Kentucky in 1833 and unsuccessfully ran for theUnited States House of Representatives in 1836. Marshall was successfully elected a Whig to the United States House of Representatives in 1840, serving from 1841 to 1843, unsuccessful for reelection in 1842. During theMexican-American War , he served acaptain of volunteers. Afterwards, he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives again in 1854 and moved toChicago, Illinois in 1856. He later returned to Kentucky and continued to practice law until his death nearVersailles, Kentucky onSeptember 22 ,1864 . He was interned inFrankfort Cemetery inFrankfort, Kentucky .External links
