HMS Tyne

Six ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS "Tyne", after the River Tyne, England:
*The first "Tyne", launched in 1814, was a 28-gun sixth-rate.
*The second "Tyne" 1826 was another 28-gun sixth-rate.
*The third "Tyne", launched in 1867 as "Active", was a Royal Naval Reserve training ship.
*The fourth "Tyne", launched in 1878 as SS "Mariotis", was a troop ship sunk in 1920.
*The fifth "Tyne" (F24), launched in 1940, was a "Hecla"-class depot ship. She served in World War II and the Korean War and was scrapped in 1972.
*The sixth and current "Tyne" (P281) is a River-class patrol vessel.
