Joseph Charles Brennan

Joseph Charles Brennan VC (August 1836-24 September 1872) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Details

He was about 39 years old, and a Bombardier in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 3 April 1858 at Jhansi, India, during the assault on the Fort, Bombardier Brennan brought up two guns manned by natives, laying each under a very heavy fire from the walls, and directing them so accurately as to compel the enemy to abandon his battery.
