Retrieved 2007-12-27 ]Background information
"Bleed It Out" is the first of two tracks on the album to contain rap vocals from
Mike Shinoda , with the other being "Hands Held High". It is also the second track of the 3 songs in the album to containprofanity , with "Given Up " being the first and "Hands Held High" the third. The main guitar riff of "Bleed it Out" which repeats throughout a majority of the song came as a result of guitarist Brad Delson playing a note incorrectly, thus explaining the song's working title of "Accident".
In the album booklet, Mike Shinoda stated that the lyrics to this track was difficult to perfect, as he re-wrote the lyrics to this song about a "hundred times" until the band was satisfied with them. The song is the shortest track on "Minutes to Midnight", besides the instrumental intro, "Wake". Therefore in live performances, including Projekt Revolution, Linkin Park has extended the song making it about three times longer, while focusing on Rob Bourdon, the band's drummer.
It was first performed live during the show at
Webster Hall in Chicago Illinois onMay 11 ,2007 . Other notable live performances of the song include when it was performed in Tokyo onJuly 7 ,2007 and broadcast as part ofLive Earth , The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis, as well as when it was performed on theMay 12 ,2007 episode of "Saturday Night Live ". X Games 13, where it was erroneously named "Let It Bleed" which is a song byThe Used . OnAugust 20 ,2007 , the song was also used duringESPN 's montage of sports clips, called the Ultimate Highlight, on "SportsCenter ".Brad Delson, band's guitarist, said that this is his favorite song.

The song's
music video was directed byJoe Hahn and premiered onJuly 31 ,2007 on MTV Germany. The music video was premiered in the United States onAugust 6 ,2007 all day long on MTV2's "Unleashed". It also had a premiere onTRL the same day as MTV2's "Unleashed". It debuted at number 27 on theMuchmusic Countdown onAugust 3 . Although the actual CD track features footsteps leading into an opening door followed by the band performing the song in front of a small audience clapping along (recorded by the band at a bar), the video is much different, as it is just one continuous shot with the band performing on a small stage in front of a reversed bar fight scene. [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnuuYcqhzCE Official "Bleed It Out" Music Video] onYouTube ] Some of the video was made from green screen while the band is performing on stage in the music video. The video starts as the fight is ending, and at the end of the video, it is revealed that a person vomited on another person's shoe, which started the massive fight. The video was named Muchmusic's #1 Rock video of 2007 during their annual Holiday Wrap specialty program series. Also, at the
2008 MuchMusic Video Awards , Bleed It Out won for Best International Video - Group.Track listings
