Livna

Livna is a software repository that contains packages for the Fedora Linux distribution. Livna distributes software that Fedora will not, jointly out of the Free Software software philosophy, and because that software violates US law.

"Livna" is an ananym of "Anvil," which is the handle of Damien Nadé, the French programmer who maintains rpm.livna.org.

Example Livna packages

* libdvdcss, which may or may not violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
* lame, which violates patents owned by the Fraunhofer Society.
* Madwifi, which is an open-source driver but uses a proprietary method of accessing wireless cards.

Future of Livna

It was announced on 8 November 2007 that Fedora 8 would be the last release that Livna would be providing add-ons for. The reason for this is that Livna is merging with "Dribble" and "Freshrpms" to create a unified repository of add-on software called "RPM Fusion".
