Ayanvaram or Ayanpuram is one of the many suburban localities of Chennai and is located in West Chennai about 8 kilometres from the city center. The Konnur High Road, one of the important connecting roads in Chennai runs through Ayanavaram. Ayanavaram is one of the peripheral commercial areas of Chennai.

Attractions

Ayanavaram houses Jeeva Park, Central library, Thiruvateeswarar Hospital, Railway Hospital, the then Tamil Nadu State Corporation.

The Railway Hospital is state-of-the art and one of the renowned hospitals in India for heart ailments. Railway employees from all over India flock to this place for their health care needs.

Besides, in the vicinity are Yasodha Hospital, Leprosy Centre, I.C.F.Hospital, and Technical Training Centre.

Kasi Viswanathar Kovil is situated near the Ayanaram Bus Terminus.

A shivan temple and a vishnu temple stand side-by-side in Ayanavaram, bearing testimony to religious harmony and tolerance.

The shivan temple is Parasurama Eswaran Kovil, which is very ancient, that stands majestically in Parasurama Esvaran Kovil Theru.

Adjacent to the shivan temple is Kariya Manicka Perumal Kovil, which is also very ancient.

Both these temples are at least 1000 years old and some stone inscriptions were found in them, which proves their antiquity.

Thiruvallur Maavattam Paal Pannai(Distric Milk Producers Cooperative Society) was in Ayanavaram, before it was moved to Madhavaram.

Ayanavaram was also the headquarters of Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation - Division Two. But later, it was merged again into one.
