"Sharpe's Siege" is a 1987 historical novel by Bernard Cornwell set in the Napoleonic wars during the British Invasion of France in 1814. Sharpe is sent to join a naval expedition on the French coast with the intention of starting a monarchist rebellion in Bordeaux. Things go amiss that lead to Sharpe being stranded in Arcachon. With two companies of riflemen and one of marines, Sharpe holds off wave after wave of attackers from Calvet's demi-brigade. Sharpe finds himself unable to fend off another attack so he arranges with an American privateer, Cornelius Killick, (who he saved from execution) for his escape.
