Giselle Fernández (born
May 15 ,1961 ) is an Americantelevision journalist . Her appearances on network television include as reporter and guest anchor for CBS Early Show, CBS Evening News, NBC Today, NBC Nightly News, regular host forAccess Hollywood , and guest onDancing with the Stars .She was born inMexico City ,Mexico . Her father was aflamenco dancer, while her Jewish mother was a student of Mexicanfolklore .Giselle attended the Sacramento State University, where she graduated in 1982. Her
television career began in 1983 at KRDO inPueblo ,Colorado . From 1985 until 1989, she worked as atelevision reporter and weekendanchor inLos Angeles (KTLA ),Chicago (WBBM), andMiami (WCIX). While in Chicago, she metRon Kershaw , who was previously involved withJessica Savitch . The two were engaged, but Kershaw died ofpancreatic cancer and liver cancer.She gained her first national news job in October 1991 for
CBS News , when she moved toNew York and became a correspondent and back-upanchor for both the morning, evening, and weekend news broadcasts. She later moved toNBC , where she anchored the weekend edition of the Today Show and the SundayNBC Nightly News , as well as various special reporting assignments in the U.S. and elsewhere.From 1996 to 1999, Giselle was the co-host for
Access Hollywood , an entertainment news program onNBC . She then co-hosted the "This Week in History " show on theHistory Channel . In 2002 she returned to her roots in Los Angeles and joinedKTLA television news. She left this position in 2003 to pursue a variety of special projects, including making a movie and writing children's books.Fernandez participated as a contestant on the second season of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" in January 2006, but was the third contestant to be eliminated. She partnered with Jonathan Roberts and had an average of 23 points.
