- USS Canonicus (ACM-12)
The fourth USS "Canonicus" (ACM-12) was a
minelayer in theUnited States Navy . It was named forCanonicus , a chief of the Narragansett Indians."Canonicus" was originally delivered to the
United States Army in 1942 byMarietta Manufacturing ofPoint Pleasant, West Virginia . It was named "MG Erasmus Weaver" for ColonelErasmus M. Weaver, Jr. , the first chief of theNational Guard Bureau . It was transferred to the Navy in 1944 and assigned the name "Canonicus" on1 May 1955 ."Canonicus" was sold in 1948.
