Marcus Tuite (born 11 May 1968 in Dublin) was an Irish soccer player during the 1980s and 1990s.
League of Ireland
Tuite was a midfielder who represented Limerick City where he made his League of Ireland debut on the 8th of February 1987, and Bohemian F.C. amongst others during his career in the League of Ireland.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
Tuite represented Ireland in the 1985 FIFA World Youth Championship in the USSR.
In the first group game against Saudi Arabia, Tuite started in midfield during Ireland's 1–0 loss.[1] During Ireland's game with Brazil in Tbilisi, Tuite was brought on by Irish manager Liam Touhy in the 79th minute and scored Ireland's only goal of the game in a 2–1 loss, when he scored past Taffarel in the 86th minute which was to be the only goal that Brazil conceded in the entire tournament.[1][2]
Brian Kerr recalled that "it was amazing...The stadium was packed. They had all come to see Brazil, but they ended up cheering for us." At the end of the game the Irish team were given a standing ovation.[2]
