Eric L. Nicoli,
CBE (bornAugust 5 ,1950 ) has been CEO ofEMI Group plc sinceJanuary 12 2007 having been Executive Chairman of the group since July 1999. As part of this role, he has direct responsibility for the management of EMI Music, the Group’s recorded music business.In addition to his position at
EMI , Nicoli has been Non-Executive Chairman ofThe Tussauds Group since June 2001 and Non-Executive Chairman of the U.K. cinema chainVue Entertainment since December 2006.He is Chairman of the EMI Music Sound Foundation, a post held since March 2003 and is Chairman of the PerCent Club. He sits on the UK government’s Creative Industries Forum on Intellectual Property.
Education
Nicoli received a BSc degree in
Physics fromKing's College London .For his outstanding service to the local community he received the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering from
Brunel University in July 2003.Career
From the mid-1970s, Nicoli spent 27 years in the
food manufacturing industry. While working in marketing for the confectionery companyRowntree's (previously owned by Rowntree Mackintosh), Nicoli spotted a gap in the market and filled it with two chocolate bars that have since become bestsellers: theLion Bar andYorkie From Rowntree’s Nicoli joined the multinational food manufacturer
United Biscuits (UB) in 1980 where he spent the next 9 years progressing through the ranks, with positions including: Marketing Director of UK Biscuits from 1980, Group Business Planning Director from 1984, Managing Director of UB Frozen Foods from 1985, Managing Director of UB Brands from 1986.In 1989 he became Chief Executive of the company’s European operations.
Nicoli first joined
EMI in the capacity of Non-Executive Director in July 1993 and became an Executive Director onMay 1 1999 shortly before being appointed Executive Chairman.From March 2001 until February 2004 was also the Non-Executive Chairman of HMV Group plc.
In August 2007, it was announced that Nicoli would leave
