Dancin’ Unlimited (www.dujdc.org), founded in 1973, is a professional jazz dance company whose goal is to promote, produce, and perform quality jazz dance. Under the artistic direction of Marilyn York, the company focuses on theatrical jazz dance concerts with emphasis on technical excellence in dance, broad variety and professionalism, and all of the dancers are all seasoned performers with extensive classical dance training and performance experience. Dancin’ Unlimited’s repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary jazz dance and from the Big Band era to Broadway dance, and the company performs in shows and at corporate events, conventions, trade shows, fairs, festivals, schools, and many other special events. Dancin’ Unlimited proudly produces and performs in the annual Jazz and Tap Dance Festival as part of its commitment of bringing the art of jazz dance to the Washington DC metropolitan area. In 2010, the Jazz and Tap Dance Festival will celebrate its twenty-fourth consecutive season.

Marilyn York’s involvement in dance includes over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the field including performing, teaching, directing and choreography. She studied with the Washington School of Ballet, Capital Ballet Company, and was a dance major at Butler University. She studied jazz with Wally Saunders, Nilo Toledo, Bob Thoma, Luigi and Gus Giordano – and has developed her own unique style. She has also performance experience with numerous Washington DC area theatres, dance companies, nightclubs and Festivals.

Dancin’ Unlimited’s tagline is “Jazz dance with class.”

Dancin' Unlimited, which was originally named Dance Theater Company of Northern Virginia and later renamed Virginia Jazz Theatre, is a professional dance company that focuses on theatrical jazz dance performance. The company was founded in 1972 by Robert Thoma and accepted into the Northeast Regional Ballet Association in 1974. Marilyn York has been the Artistic Director since 1976. Entry into the company—which is restricted to dancers having classical dance training and experience—is by audition, in the Spring and Fall of each year.

The Dancin' Unlimited company introduces new programs annually, with a repertoire that includes classical, Big Band era and Broadway jazz dance styles, as well as hip-hop. The company performs in the Washington DC metropolitan area at venues such as corporate events, conventions, trade shows, fairs and festivals, and schools. It also produces and performs in the Jazz and Tap Dance Festival, an annual event in which regional dance companies perform jazz and tap dance.
