Texas (USA). The structure currently housesapartment s,retail space, and a portion of the Dallas Education Center. TheTitche-Goettinger department store chain started construction on the structure in 1928 and it was complete in 1929.History
In 1902,
Edward Titche formed a partnership withMax Goettinger and the two establishedTitche-Goettinger , a department store, on the southeast corner of Elm and Murphy Streets in downtown Dallas. By 1904, operations had outgrown the Elm/Murphy location and the store moved to the year-old Wilson Building. Retrieved on25 April 2007 .] By 1928, the store had again outgrown itself and construction began on a new building two blocks east, between Main and Elm Streets at St. Paul Street. The St. Paul store was expanded in 1955 by Thomas, Jameson & Merrill.In 1979,
Allied Stores , owners ofJoske's department stores, purchased Titche-Goettinger and the store took the Joske's name. The Joske's store closed in 1986 and the building remained vacant until 1994, when Graham Greene of Meckfessel Associates renovated a portion of the building as the Dallas Education Center. In 1996, the structure was listed on theNational Register of Historic Places . In 1997, Oglesby-Green converted the rest of the building into 129apartment units andretail space.References
