radio station located inCharleston, South Carolina , broadcasting to the Lowcountry area on 96.9 MHz. WIWF airs aCountry music format branded as "96.9 The Wolf."History
WCSC-FM signed on the air
April 1 ,1948 as the FM sister to WCSC. The station became WXTC-FM by the 70s and was known as "Ecstasy", abeautiful music station until the early 1980s. WXTC-FM switched tosoft adult contemporary and latersmooth jazz and 70s Oldies (as WJUK). The former call letters, WSUY, and former AC format were moved from what is nowWALC .96.9's
Adult Contemporary format was dropped on Thursday, October 11th, 2007. The station then continued playing music, interspaced with liners directing listeners to sister stationWSSX .The next day, a
Country music format was launched as "96.9 The Wolf." This comes shortly beforeCitadel Broadcasting moves their Charleston Country outlet,WNKT , to their cluster in theColumbia, South Carolina market. This move will leave Citadel Broadcasting with aCountry music station in the Charleston market, even afterWNKT is moved, to compete with rival country music stationWEZL . However, the changes will now void Charleston of anyAdult Contemporary radio stations.Shortly after the flip to Country, the WSUY call letters were changed to WIWF.External links
