Canadian Comedian/Actor/Writer & Locations Manager Takes a break to Run in The Election As An MP

Canadian Comedian / Actor / Writer and Locations Manager, James W Miller-Cousineau recently completed a pilot script about a special ops who returns from the middle east when his son is killed in the crossfire of rivaling drug gangs. The father recruits several ex-special ops with various areas of specialty to wage a vigilate war against drug dealers and crime syndicates. James claims that he thinks that the show would touch a chord with Canadian, American and international audiences as people around the globe are very upset and frustrated with the increased violence by gangs in their community. There is a perception that not enough is being done to curb the violence and people are feeling scared for the direction that the violence is taking society. People will relate to the frustration and anger of a father who has lost his son in the violence and watched the murderers walk free.

"I believe that tougher laws and consequences for youth and adults need to be implimented in all violencet offenses, regardless of the weapon used. This is not just a gun problem, it is a violence problem. If we would spend a fraction of the money on crime prevention and intervention strategies, that we spend on jailing those violent offenders after they have hurt or killed someone, we could save money and lives. It becomes a win - win for everyone." says James Miller-Cousineau from his campaign office in North Delta, BC. " I am running for federal office because I truely believe that I can help to make a difference in Canada. I have made mistakes in my life and have take responsibility for those mistakes and learned from them. We are not teaching the same accountability to our children and youth as a society. We are not doing them any favors by continually denying that they should be held accountable. I worked on a 22 episode Chinese television series last year which involved gangsters and a very unbelievable story line which was comical. The violence we are seeing in our streets is nothing to laugh at. I am very passionate about making a difference in our communities as I have once witnessed my best friend being murdered. I performed CPR and although I was able to get him breathing and his heart restarted, he died from the extensive head trauma a week later. As a father of 4 and grandfather of 2, I feel it is time for me to represent my community in Ottawa in addition to all Canadian's in a common sense approach to Crime, health Care, Seniors programs and Education for starters."

Below are some of the policies which James feels are very important to all Canadian's. He has commited his time and funds up to the limit allowed by Election's Canada. Running as an independent poses great challenges as there are strict financial contribution limits a candidate or any other person may contribute. he does not have the backing of large numbers of people such as the Liberal's, Conservatives, NDP's and Green Party candidates. His budget will be less than 10% oof the large parties if more contributor's are not signed on. As a confirmed candidate now, e can at least benefit from the ability to issue tax receipts to contributors just as the big parties and other candidates can but each contributor is still subject to the same contribution limits.

Crime - We are a multi-cultural society which must bring community leaders of all backgrounds together in order to foster cooperation, communication and understanding in order to find effective solutions to crime reduction. James has worked in areas of Metro Vancouver, Regent Park- Toronto and Inner City areas of Los Angeles on the front line with youth at risk. He has served as the chairperson of the 51 division, Community & Police Liaison Committee in Regent Park in addition to training Law Enforcement, Youth Workers, Social Workers, Educators, Youth and Parents alike in Youth Violence Prevention & Intervention Strategies. He founded and continues to run one of the largest online youth violence prevention databases in the world and is also the author of 3 books on youth violence prevention and crime reduction. Elimination of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act (Formerly the Young Offenders Act) after a youth has three prior convictions and in the case of aggravated violent offenses, total elimination of protection under this act for youth. Increased federal funding for prevention programs and support to families to help children and youth before they are in our court system. Accountability has been lost and we must ensure this value is taught or we will only contribute further to the problems we are facing.

Less than 5% of murders in Canada are committed with hand guns and yet the current government wants mandatory minimums for gun crimes. How about any violent offense involving a weapon of any type? No wasting money on another gun registry program as the majority of gun crimes are not committed by registered gun owners. Hold irresponsible gun owners who fail to secure weapons properly and when that neglect results in someone else using that gun in the commission of a crime or accidental death to account in terms of criminal liability.

I witnessed my best friends’ violent murder many years ago and there is not a day that goes by I do not think of it. We must take steps to reduce the violence in our community so no other person will go through this. There are nights that I wake up after a nightmare recalling the events and as I had done CPR at the scene, there are times when I awake I swear I still taste his blood. The accused had run him down in cold blood in order to prevent Alex from getting his plate number after a minor hit and run. He was sentenced to 2 years for killing Alex and 6 months for leaving the scene of an accident. That is not justice.

A federal program to fund each province up to $25,000,000. Each year to hire and maintain a provincial anti-gang task force which each province will share intelligence and collaborate on anti gang activities throughout the country.

Education - Increase federal transfer payments designated STRICTLY FOR INCREASED SPENDING FOR K-12 EDUCATION including hiring more teachers, increase supply budgets for teachers to be equipped with tools to effectively teach our children and increased federal support for instruction and support of students with special needs.

Elimination at a federal level of advertising in Canadian schools. Instead offer tax incentives for corporations to donate to schools and the level of the tax break increases with the need of the community in which the school serves.

Health Care - A national bill of rights for Health Care Patients. This will include National Standards of Care to include allowable waiting periods which will reward provinces with the required funding to meet tough standards and punish those who fail to meet these standards. Simple math dictates that a healthier population is in a position to contribute further to all levels of government and community. The less time paid out in sick days for those awaiting care, cost to business to retrain employees for temporary sick leave coverage etc will help us all. Patents waiting for care in extreme pain should not be allowed in any society, especially here in Canada.

Federal Education Upgrade Program for professionals new to Canada when their specific field is in need here. In exchange for example, someone who was a surgeon in India who may not have the funds to complete the upgrade training here and competency exams, to access federal funding for the upgrades in exchange for signing a contract which will see them serve communities most needing their services. Why are we watching qualified doctors and others driving taxi cabs, working as security guards etc. when we have so many people needing care here? These funds will be in the term of an interest free loan with 20% forgivable for each year served in a community experiencing shortages.

Taxes - It would not be fair or honest for me to say I will fight for lower taxes in Ottawa but I will fight against ANY tax increases or new taxes. We do need our tax dollars to be spent in more responsible manners and with some accountability. My door will be open to anyone who wishes to discuss taxes or any other issue of concern to them.
