- De syv fjell
De syv fjell (which simply means The seven mountains) surround the city centre of
Bergen ,Norway . The seven mountains include at leastUlriken ,Fløyen ,Løvstakken andDamsgårdsfjellet , plus three out ofLyderhorn ,Sandviksfjellet ,Blåmanen ,Rundemanen , andAskøyfjellet . Ulriken is the highest of the mountains. There is some controversy as to which seven are the seven, most recently in a long series of discussion in the local newspaper BA. The reason for the confusion is that the term "de syv fjell" was created as something of a gimmick for the city, and the number seven was chosen for having a classic, symbolic feel to it, and thus its relation to the actual mountains is somewhat arbitrary. While there is no doubt that there are mountains surrounding the city, some of the mountain tops are difficult to make out from the city centre, since some of the tops (Ulriken, Fløyen, Blåmanen, Rundemanen and Sandviksfjellet) are all part of the same
massif , and Lyderhorn is mostly hidden from view behind Damsgårdsfjellet.External links
