Korea Kent Foreign School

Korea Kent Foreign School was founded in 1993 to provide education to international students in Seoul. More than 30 different nationalities are represented in the student body, with the majority of students coming from the United States. The student enrollment is around three hundred in total, from Kindergarten to Highschool. The school is authorized by the Republic of Korea Minister of Education, member of East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools, and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school started as a high school only institution. Today, it has classes from kindergarten through to grade twelve. Change of the school buildings were inevitable especially in Seoul, where expenses are very high. Now the school is located in Gwangjin-gu, in a very modern design. All classes are taught in English and no other language. There is an ESL (English as a second language) program, which offers suplemental classes to support students with deficient levels of English ability.

Philosophy

"Because each student is a unique individual, education should develop self-respect, self-esteem and the respect for others. The objective of Korea Kent Foreign School is to provide an environment in which each student can develop their intellect and personality. This will enable the student to become a mature member of society with high moral values and accept accountable for personal actions."

The school is fairly small, with approximately one hundred students enrolled in each education level, from elementary school, middle school to high school. Because of the size of the school, the students and teachers are able to create and maintain close relationships with one another, which is a beneficial aspect to the school.

KKFS competes in Division II of the Korean-American Interscholastic Activity Conference (KAIAC). The school has 6 varsity sports teams: boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls soccer. Since joining the conference in 2003, Kent's sports teams have become increasingly competitive and have begun to experience consistent success. The boy's basketball team has won two KAIAC conference championships in a row and is hoping to continue its streak. The boy's varsity soccer team has become notable for sending graduates to universities in the United States on scholarship. There is one former player currently in the U.S. on scholarship, as well as a few current students that are gathering interest from American coaches.
