author best known for his debut 2007novel , "Then We Came to the End ". The book is a satire of the American workplace. It takes places in a ficticiousChicago ad agency that is experiencing a downturn at the end of the '90sInternet boom.Joshua Ferris graduated from the
University of Iowa with a BA in 1996. He then moved toChicago , which he regards as home, before obtaining an MFA in writing fromUC Irvine . His first published story, “Mrs. Blue”, appeared in the “Iowa Review” in 1999. "Then We Came to the End " has been greeted by positive reviews fromThe New Yorker ,Esquire , andSlate and was a finalist for the National Book Award.The New Yorker recently published a short story written by Ferris entitled "The Dinner Party" in an August 2008 issue.
