Susan Walvius (born
October 24 ,1964 ) is the former head coach of thewomen's basketball team at theUniversity of South Carolina . Since beginning her tenure in 1997, she has compiled a 165-160 overall won-loss record, and 51-103 within theSoutheastern Conference (SEC) in 11 seasons. Her best success came in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, where she went 25-7 and 23-8 respectively. In those two seasons, the Gamecocks went 19-9 in SEC play. The 2002 team made it to theElite Eight for the first time in school history.On
April 14 ,2008 , she announced her resignation from her coaching position. Her decision to resign came a few weeks after two of her basketball players were arrested on possession ofmarijuana with intent to distribute and financial card theft charges.She attended
Gar-Field Senior High School in Virginia, and later attendedVirginia Tech , where she was an all-American basketball player.From 1986 to 1988, she served as the associate head women's basketball coach at Bradley. From 1989 to 1990, she coached at Rhode Island. From 1990 to 1995, she coached at VCU. From 1995 to 1997, she coached at West Virginia.
