February 24 ,1963 in Valleyfield, Quebec) is aQuebec politician . She is the current Quebec Member of theNational Assembly of Quebec (MNA) for theMontreal riding ofBourassa-Sauvé as a member of theQuebec Liberal Party . She is the current Minister ofSustainable Development , Environment and Parks since April 17, 2007. She was previously the Minister of Culture and Communications from 2003 to 2007.Beauchamp studied at the
Université de Montréal and obtained abachelor's degree inpsychology in 1985. She would be director between 1987 and 1998 of several community and social institutions including Montreal's non-profit and community radio stationCIBL-FM . She was also involved heavily in business affairs and social and economic development in Montreal's east end.Beauchamp entered provincial politics in 1998 when she was elected in the riding of Sauve on October 30, 1998. She would be more involved on the provincial issues of culture being the opposition critic in
culture andcommunication s. She would be re-elected in Boruassa-Sauve when the Liberals regained power in the 2003 elections. She would be subsequently named the Minister of Culture and Communications while also being named the minister responsible for the Montreal region for the full mandate. She would also be a member among several ParliamentaryCommittee s including social, educational and cultural development,citizenship and culture and decentralization and regions. She would also participate in several organizations in regard to relations between other countries or regions includingBelgium andCatalonia During her first term she was involved in the opening of the National Library of Quebec in downtown Montreal.In 2007 after the Liberal was re-elected to power as a
minority government ,Jean Charest named Beauchamp Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks replacingClaude Béchard who assumed the portfolio for Natural Resources after the defeat ofPierre Corbeil . She was replaced in her Culture and Communications portfolio by formerRadio-Canada journalist Christine St-Pierre while Economic Development MinisterRaymond Bachand took Beauchamp's responsibilities in regard to affairs surrounding the Montreal region.External links
