The station was the
brainchild of teacher/founder Bill Fraser.C-SPAN 'sBrian Lamb got his start in the RTV program at Jefferson High School.The station is located in the William S. Fraser Radio-TV Center at Jefferson High School, 1801 S. 18th Street, Lafayette Indiana.
The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A computer automation system takes over during after school hours, weekends, and holidays.
The station broadcasts all home and away football and boys' and girls' home and away basketball games.
Students have special morning shows from 7:00-8:00 a.m.

February 7 ,1972 - Signs on with a regular broadcasting schedule.Spring 1985 - "Middle of the Road" format is changed to Adult Contemporary. Music is added to the library via audio carts- with LP records phased out
Fall 1987 - Station
slogan identifier changed as WJEF became Easy Rock 91.9 and tried to change its image.Fall 1990 - Oldies format debuts, replacing the Adult Contemporary/Easy Rock format in use since 1985. Station officially becomes JEFF 92.
October 1996 - A new 1000 watt
transmitter is installed, replacing the original 25-year-old Harris model.Summer of 1998 - Radio
control room completely rewired. New audio board, audio console, speakers, and wiring prepare the station for the new millennium.May 1999 - Remote starts hooked up on main audio board.
August 1999 - Station sign-on changed from 7:15 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. New hours are 7-4 Mon-Fri.
September 1999 -
Pentium PC used for recording and editing on-air spots.May 2000 - Automation Equipment arrives and the process of recording music to the hard drives of the automation computers begins.
Summer 2000 - Automation equipment is installed.
September 2000 - JEFF 92 begins expanded (7 a.m. - 11 p.m., Monday - Friday) broadcast schedule, but encounters technical difficulties that prevent the new schedule from becoming permanent
October 16 ,2000 - Technical problems are solved, JEFF 92 successfully begins expanded schedule without further interruption.January 8 ,2001 - 24 hours a day / 7 days a week broadcasting officially beginsAugust 2002 - In addition to all home football games, JEFF 92 begins broadcasting all away games. In addition, all home and away boys' and girls' basketball games are broadcast.
September 10 ,2002 - Radio-TV Center dedication ceremony renaming the Radio-TV Center to "The William S. Fraser Radio-TV Center"November 2002 - New production/automation computer purchased to replaced failed unit. Thanks to the Digital Jukebox 2-machine backup system, automation continues using only one machine.
May 2003 - New computer purchased as replacement for current on-air automation computer
June 2003 - A new ON- AIR automation computer replaces the older unit that has been in service for almost 3 years. In addition to more RAM and a faster processor, the new machine has a much larger hard drive allows more music in the automation rotation.
May 2004 - WJEF founder William Fraser passes away.
September 2004 - All Jefferson High School sporting events become available on the
Internet , both as live broadcasts/webcasts , and in archive form for school year 2004-2005. (later replaced by 24/7 streaming in April 2005)December 2004 - After 32 years of service, WJEF's FM antenna atop the 100 foot tower behind the school is replaced with a brand new antenna.
April 2005 - WJEF begins webcasting 24/7 thanks to the work of senior Vince PeGan and his senior year Honors English Project.
May 2005 - The first $500 William S. Fraser
scholarship is given to senior Vince PeGan.September 2007 - Hourly pre-recorded weather on the half-hour is reinstated by Josh Williams and Ed Paget, continuing through 2009 with Caleb Williams.
September 2008 - With the help of WJEF staffers Randy Brist, Zach Smiley, Ed Paget, Josh Williams, Josh Shives, Kerby Hughes, Matt Callahan, and Caleb Williams (as well as the 2008-2009 WJEF crew), the station is moved to an entirely digital music collection.
