- Canal Place
Canal Place is a convert|58.1|acre|m2|sing=on park operated by the
National Park Service located inCumberland, Maryland . The park includes the Western Maryland Railway Station, Station Plaza, a picnic area, a canal boat replica, a pedestrian bridge to Washington’s Headquarters, picnic area, and the Crescent Lawn Festival Grounds. Future Plans for the Festival Grounds include an Adventure Playground and an outdoor recreation facility composed of an ice-skating rink, climbing walls and hardscape surface for summer activities.The Cumberland Visitor Center for the C&O Canal National Historical Park is located at Canal Place, and features interactive and educational displays about the history of the C&O Canal and Cumberland. Exhibits tell the story of the canal's construction, cargo, mules, locks, and crew.
The
Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers rides on historic trains, and departs from the Western Maryland Station."The Cumberland" is a full-size replica of a canal boat located in the Trestle Walk at Canal Place. Costumed guides talk about the history of the canal and daily life aboard a canal boat. Visitors can tour the mule shed, hay house, and furnished Captain's cabin.
