school was opened in Perlubie in 1922, but closed in 1942.Perlubie Beach has become renowned on the
Eyre Peninsula for its uniqueNew Years Day Race Meet on thebeach . The race is a 1600 m event along the beach atlow tide and dates back to 1913, when the first race was held. The sea weathered stands and saddling enclosures are among the only notablehistorical structures in the area, used solely for the new Years Eve Race meet.A
sports day is typically held the following day, the 1st of January, with buses running from the Streaky Bay Caravan Park to the beach.Although a remote area, a number of lots have recently been sold and development is expected to occur soon. [Citation
