Virginia Muise (Halifax,
July 27 or 28,1893 - Haverhill,November 2 ,2004 ) was at her death probably the oldest livingNew England er. Born inCanada , the family claims she was born July 27, though her baptismal record gives her date of birth as July 28.She was 19 when the Titanic sank, and remembered the survivors and the coffins of the victims being disembarked at the port in Halifax. After her family moved to Boston in 1923, Muise worked as a housekeeper and cook. She was manager of the cafeteria at the former Boston "Lying-In Hospital" until her retirement.
She was also a life-long
Boston Red Sox fan, and the staff of the nursing home where she lived reported her delight at the team winning the2004 World Series .A widow, Mrs. Muise is survived by four children, 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In 2003, New Hampshire Governor
