Sobalvarro

Sobalvarro/Sobalbarro: Northern and Central European decent. First Records or Name in the Basque regions Spain. The name Sobalvarro appears between the XI and XiV centuries in the Spanish northern region of Roncesvalles. Two references to the family name appear with more frequency from the XV to the XIX century and specially in regard to the negotiation with the French in the Treaty of Devolution of the Lower Countries to France in 1662 under the reign of Phillip IV.

The family shield, a silver sword on a red background indicates the name is of military origin and proven valor. Many of these shields were awarded to families for their heroic involvement in acts of war. The colors of the coat of arms of the Sobalvarros put forward the following values: Red, a symbol of strength and power, of a fervent love to God and fellow man. And the silver sword, for proven acts of valor in the battlefield.

This name traveled to Germany and eventually to the other side of the Atlantic. It is also found in some parts of Central, South and North America. The name was constructed from a combination of three brothers whose last names have not been recovered successfully(?).
