Guy Clyde Conti (born
March 9 ,1942 in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania ) is aMajor League Baseball bullpen coach for theNew York Mets . He was one ofWillie Randolph 's first hires as manager in winter by|2004 and began as a coach in the by|2005 season. Prior to joining the Mets, Conti held various coaching positions in theLos Angeles Dodgers ' minor league system, where he befriendedSandy Koufax and also worked with young pitchers such asPedro Martínez andIsmael Valdez . (Martinez credits Conti for teaching him English when Conti coached Martinez inGreat Falls, Montana , calling him "my white daddy."
