Professor Justice Tawiah Modibo Ocran is an academic and a Supreme Court Judge in Ghana.

Early life and education

Modibo Ocran proceeded to the United States of America (USA) for post graduate studies. He obtained the M.L.I., (Comparative Law) and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Career

Prof. Ocran has worked as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Centre. In January 1977, he was appointed to the Committee on "Unigov" which drew up the programme for implementation of a “National Government instead of Unigov”, established by the Supreme Military Council government. International organizations

Prof. Modibo Ocran was the senior political affairs officer with the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) for the former Yugoslavia between 1994 and 1995.

Academia

Modibo Ocran was once a Research Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles Law School, Los Angeles. Between 1984 and 2004, he was the Dean’s Club Research Professor at the University of Akron [http://www.uakron.edu/law/ School of Law] in the USA. He has also been a law lecturer at the University of Zambia. Since 2003, Prof. Modibo Ocran has been Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Ghana.

He was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Ghana by President John Kufuor in 2004.

Associations

He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association, American Association of International Law and International Third World Legal Studies, erves on the Executive Board of the AALS Section on Africa and is an Associate Member of the American Bar Association.
