cities =Lake Rotoma is the easternmost in a chain of three
lake s to the northeast ofLake Rotorua inNew Zealand 'sNorth Island . Like the others, it lies within theOkataina caldera . It is located exactly half-way between the city ofRotorua and town ofWhakatane .Lake Rotoma has a high water quality with visibility up to around 13 metres deep. The lake has a maximum depth of 83 metres in the northern part and 73.5 metres in the southern part. During the
1987 Edgecumbe Earthquake the lake level dropped by approximately 10m, leaving homes that were previously on the lakeside some distance from the lake.
