Media in Afghanistan Media is a new phenomenon in the post-Taliban country. Print-media is in boom in the country. But due to high illiteracy rate and less culture of reading in Afghanistan, print-media is limited to urban areas. Radio is the only media source for the majority rural population in far-flung areas of the country.

Circulation Due to mass illiterate population, Daily Outlook Afghanistan mostly goes to embassies, NGOs, UN Agencies, public places, educational institutions and other organizations. Both papers (Daily Outlook and Daily Afghanistan) of Afghanistan Group of Newspapers go to 32 provinces of the country out of 34 provinces. A limited number of copies also go to some cities of Pakistan and in Dubai. There are many independent newspapers emerging in Afghanistan. Daily Outlook is the only independent English daily of the country published from capital Kabul. It was founded on 26, February 2004 by Dr. Hussain Ali Yasa.

Free and Independent Media In Afghanistan print media is hugely political. Many daily newspapers of the country are mouthpiece to political parties. The Government publishes six newspapers. Daily Outlook Afghanistan is the only independent paper in English. Outlook does not receive any Government advertisement. Due to mass publication and vast readers across the country, the daily receives extensive advertisement from business companies.
