Results and statistics for the Victorian Football League season of 1922.

Premiership season

In 1922, the VFL competition was comprised of nine teams of 18 on-the-field players each, with no "reserves", although any of the 18 players who had left the playing field for any reason could later resume their place on the field at any time during the match.

Each team played each other twice in a home-and-away season of 18 rounds (i.e., 16 matches and 2 byes).

Once the 18 round home-and-away season had finished, the 1922 VFL "Premiers" were determined by the specific format and conventions of the amended "Argus" system".

Ladder

Awards

* The 1922 VFL Premiership team was Fitzroy.
* The VFL's leading goalkicker was Horrie Clover of Carlton with 54 goals (56 after finals).
* "The Argus" newspaper's "Player of the Year", Goldie Collins of Fitzroy, was declared 1922 Champion of the Season.
* South Melbourne took the "wooden spoon" in 1922.

Notable Events

* Essendon, evicted from the East Melbourne Cricket Ground, start playing their home games at Windy Hill.
* Boundary umpires are now responsible for bringing the ball back to the centre after a goal has been scored.
* After a ground invasion by angry Richmond fans immediately Richmond's round 5 match was over (Essendon had beaten Richmond by 10 points), directed at the field umpire (Arthur Norden), the field umpire receives a letter threatening his life. He retired.
* In its round 6 win against Melbourne, Essendon pulls away from Melbourne, kicking 6.3 (39) in the last eight minutes of the match.
* The first issue of the "pink paper", the Saturday evening "Sporting Globe", was published on 22 July 1922.
* In the round 16 match between Richmond and South Melbourne, the field umpire did not hear the hand-bell signalling the end of the first quarter. South Melbourne's time-keeper, former player Charlie Goding, upset that Richmond were closing in on South Melbourne's score, runs on to the field to let the umpire know that the quarter was over.
* In the round 17 match against Geelong, St Kilda's centre half-forward Dave McNamara had 12 kicks for the match; he scored ten goals, nine with place-kicks (one 70 yards, another 65 yards), and one with a punt-kick.
