Joseph Davidson

Joseph Davidson

Joseph Davidson (August 9, 1846 — December 3, 1901) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1871 and 1874. Davidson was born in Brimington and died in Brimington Common, the same place in which his son lived.

Davidson played in Derbyshire's first ever match as a county side, as a lower-order batsman, an innings defeat of Lancashire still in the record books over 130 years later as the second-lowest score ever achieved by an opposing team playing in a first-class match against the Peakites. Though Davidson played no part in the 1872 season, he played three more times for Derbyshire over the next two years, though he was never able to better the top-score he achieved in his first match.

Davidson was a lower-order batsman for the Derbyshire team in the team's early days. Davidson's sons Frank and George both played for Derbyshire in the late 19th century. He outlived the latter by over two years.
