Jeremy Farrell

Jeremy Farrell (born November 11, 1986 in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey) is the son of Sue and John Farrell, Major League Baseball pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox. Has two younger brothers (Shane and Luke).

Growing Up

Farrell grew up in Westlake, Ohio and attended St. Ignatius High School. At Ignatius he played four years of baseball, two years of basketball and one year as the schools football quarterback. Farrell was an Honor Roll student.

Accolades

• Four-year letterwinner at Saint Ignatius under coaches Brian Morgan and Brad Ganor.

• Helped Saint Ignatius to a 22-5 record as a senior and a No. 7 state ranking

• Rated as the No. 105 prospect by Baseball America/Perfect Game and No. 112 ranked prospect by Team One Baseball

• Also the No. 7 rated third basemen prospect by Team One Baseball

• Earned Conference Freshman of the Year (2002)

• First Team All-Conference and Team Co-MVP (2003) as a sophomore

• First Team All-Conference (2004)

• Sun Newspaper Player of the Year (2004)

• Hit .486 with eight home runs and 52 RBI as a junior

• Lettered two years in basketball and one year in football as a quarterback

• Earned all-star honors in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League, where he was one of few high school players in a predominantly college league.

College

Farrell was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 41st round of the 2005 draft. He opted to enter college and attends the University of Virginia. His freshman year Farrell started 45 of 48 games at third base and had the fifth-best batting average on the team (.324). He was named to Baseball America's Fab 50 list for the top freshmen in 2006.

Majors

Drafted after junior season by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 8th round of the 2008 draft. Currently is playing third base for the State College Spike, the single A affiliate of the Pirates.
