company_slogan = Your Alternative to Alternative.vM Radio (also known simply as vM) was an
internet radio station based inHellertown, Pennsylvania ,USA that played rock, alternative, metal, and indie music, among a collage of other rock-related genres. They had website located at [http://www.vm-radio.com www.vm-radio.com] , although it is no longer. They also pioneered a brand new automated online request system, as well as sponsored many local events throughout theLehigh Valley metropolitan area in the2006 and2007 years. A high level of local artists from this area were played on the radio station, too. The station did not edit the music it played, as it was (and is) not required of internet radio stations to do this.vM Radio was founded in September 2006, and continued to be run by the original staff, and original founders up until its ultimate demise in November of 2007.
Online request system
At the opening of vM radio, they pioneered a brand new concept - online, automated requests. They continued to use this concept up until closing of the radio station. All of their over 1500 songs were requestable, by specific song, online on their website. A visitor could have logged on to the vM Radio website, clicked on online requests, and requested any song.
hows & Specials
vM Radio had three self-produced radio shows aired every week.
The first was the Artist of the Week show, which was aired Sunday through Thursday at 9pm Eastern Standard Time. This show aired any and all music, interviews and special features of the current week's artist of the week. Users chose the artist of the week every week by accessing the vM Radio website and voting on who they think should be chosen that week.
The second show, aired every night at 10pm Eastern Standard Time, was the Top 10 at 10. This show simply showcased the top 10 requests of the day, as requested by radio listeners on the radio station website. The record for longest time spent at the top of the countdown was held by Eighteenth Hour, a band from
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania , which held the number one spot on the countdown for seventeen consecutive days in September 2007. Another Bethlehem based band, Sandlot Heroes, was the previous record holder, with a seven-consecutive-day run.The third was just simply a 2fer show, broadcasted from all day Tuesday. This was, of course, simply dubbed "2-fer Tuesday."
There were also many new shows in development when vM Radio was forced to close, including a morning show, lunch hour show, music industry countdown, new music hours, local music hours, and much more.
Future Goals
vM had many future goals for its radio station, but didn't plan on closing anywhere along the way. They planned on developing a "mobile only" website that is meant for use with
cell phones , so that the station would have been accessible anywhere. Also, by 2009, they planed, to the excitement of people in theLehigh Valley , to become an over-the-airFM broadcast radio station [ [http://vm-radio.com/newgoal.html vM Sets Goal ] ] . They looked, like any radio station, to keep expanding their music library, work on bigger sponsorships and partnerships with bigger companies, and more.vM Radio was also currently working with many different companies and people to becoming one of the showcased radio stations on the
iTunes music program, the most popular music-managing program on the Internet.logans
