J.P.McMeekin (Joseph P.) was born in Dublin, Ireland on April 6, 1857. He immigrated to America with his family in 1872, settling in Utah. In 1910 he moved to Napa, California, where he painted until the end of his life.

He maintained a small cottage and studio in Coombsville, California and often made painting excursions into the area around Napa, as well as Yosemite. After 1916, he confined his artist activities to Napa County where he received First Premium Ribbons in local exhibitions. He died February 12, 1936.
